To get a first impression of the city, we recommend exploring the city on foot - the distances are not far and you can stroll past the sights and get to know the city.

The starting point is Vienna Central Station...

    leave the main exit of the main station and go in the direction of the Guertel, keep to the right and you will soon see the Belvedere Palace - from the palace you will get a first view over Vienna, walk through the Belvedergarten to the Lower Belvedere, turn left, past the Hochstrahlbrunnen and the French Embassy through the Wien Museum to Karlsplatz with the Karlskirche and the Resselpark, take the zebra crossing to the Wiener Musikverein - there is the hall from where the New Year's Concert is broadcast worldwide, past the Musikverein and the Hotel Imperial to the Ringstrasse, turn left there and walk along the Kärtner Ring to the Vienna State Opera, continue along the Ringstrasse until you see the Burggarten with the Hofburg and the Heleenplatz on the left and the Art and Natural History Museum on the right, further along the Ringstrasse you will see the Volksgarten on the left and the Parliament on the right, followed by the City Hall and opposite the town hall, the Burgtheaterg Enjoy a coffee and a pastry at the famous Café Landtmann - the university is on the other side of the Ringstrasse take Teinfeltstrasse between Café Landtmann and the Burgtheater and you will reach the Freyung with the Schottenstift, turn right and walk straight ahead - past Am Hof - until you queue, then left and you come to the Graben - straight on to the Kohlmarkt and back to the Hofburg - but go left along the Graben with the plague column to Stephansplatz and the Stephansdom - go into the cathedral and let yourself be inspired by the Inspired by the power of this cathedral, you will return to the opera via Kärntnerstrasse

Shopping in the old town of Vienna

You can get specialties from all over the world at Meinl am Graben, which is also well-known for its restaurant.

The largest and liveliest shopping street in Vienna is Mariahilfer Strasse with its small streets all around, which stretches from the Kunsthistorisches Museum to the Westbahnhof.

The most famous market with its colorful range of culinary delights is the Naschmarkt, which should not be missed on any visit to Vienna.
